From sacred ceremonies on the banks of the Ganges to the soaring Himalayas and wildlife-rich jungles of Nepal, the tour showcases the blend of culture, spirituality and adventure that lured The Beatles to the region in the sixties.
Beginning in India’s vibrant capital, Delhi, the itinerary introduces travellers to the country’s contrasts, from the bustling streets of Old Delhi and the grandeur of the Jama Masjid to the peaceful Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and India Gate.
A rail journey then leads north to Rishikesh, the spiritual heart of India and one of Hinduism’s holiest destinations.
During a three-night stay overlooking the River Ganges, customers will experience the captivating Ganga Aarti ceremony, as priests perform ancient rituals by firelight while devotional chants echo along the riverbanks.
They will explore historic ashrams, including the Beatles Ashram where the band famously stayed in 1968, discover the tranquil Vashistha Cave, and have the opportunity to begin the day with an optional yoga session in the Himalayan foothills.
The journey then turns to wildlife as travellers continue to Corbett National Park, India’s oldest national park and home to Royal Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards and more than 600 bird species.
Alongside a jeep safari through forests and grasslands, highlights include a visit to conservation pioneer Jim Corbett’s former home, a village walk with local refreshments, stargazing and a talk exploring the life and legacy of the man who gave the park its name.
Returning to Delhi, customers travel by rail to Agra to visit the magnificent Taj Mahal, before exploring the imposing Agra Fort, another masterpiece of Mughal architecture.
The adventure continues with a short flight to Nepal, where a quite different landscape awaits. In Kathmandu, travellers discover centuries of history among the temples and palaces of UNESCO-listed Durbar Square before visiting Boudhanath Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist monuments.
A traditional Nepali dinner with cultural performances provides an introduction to the country’s rich heritage.
Travelling west to Pokhara, beneath the snow-capped Annapurna range, the tour showcases some of Nepal’s most spectacular scenery. Highlights include a cruise across Phewa Lake, visits to the Gorkha Memorial Museum and International Mountain Museum, and the chance to make traditional momo dumplings with a local family.
En route, customers stop in the picturesque hill town of Bandipur, reached by cable car and renowned for its preserved Newari architecture.
The final stage is spent in Chitwan National Park, one of Asia’s finest wildlife reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During a three-night stay, travellers enjoy two jeep safaris in search of one-horned rhinoceroses, crocodiles, elephants and, with luck, the elusive Bengal tiger.
They will also take a canoe ride along the Rapti River, enjoy a guided jungle walk with an expert naturalist, visit a traditional Tharu village and experience an evening of local dance and culture.
