Cape Town has been named the best value winter sun destination for 2026, according to new research from Post Office Travel Money, which compared the cost of eight everyday holiday essentials across 24 destinations.

The South African city topped the table, with the eight items costing a combined £58.24 in Cape Town. The basket comprised a three-course meal for two with wine, coffee, beer, water, suncream and insect repellent. Mombasa came second at £63.66.
With its combination of beaches, mountains, vineyards, wildlife and vibrant city life, Cape Town also offers plenty beyond the beach, making it particularly well suited to a tailor-made winter escape.
