PLAY’s inaugural flight to Boston departed London Stansted at 11.35 am today, marking the beginning of a new service connecting London Stansted to Boston Logan International Airport via Reykjavik.
The flight, which will take approximately 11 hours with a stop in Reyjkavik is now available four times a week.
One way tickets from London Stansted to Boston start at £199, with frequent sales expected throughout the year.
Today’s flight marks the second phase of PLAY’s transatlantic growth, said the airline in a statement.
In April this year, it launched a transatlantic service to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).
The airline reported its strongest bookings in recent weeks, which it says is due in part to the launch of its transatlantic flights in April.
With 37,000 passengers in April, a 54% increase from March, and a load factor of 72.4% in April compared to 66.9% in March, PLAY says it is heading into a strong spring and summer season as strong booking trends continue.
PLAY CEO Birgir Jónsson commented: “Around the world, tourists and holidaymakers are fuelling an international travel comeback.
“Expanding our flights to Boston today will support European travellers looking for budget-friendly access to the North East States, allowing them to pay less for their flights and more on the fun activities and excursions that make the trip memorable.

PLAY’s expansion is timed during “a year of expected growth” within the travel industry, giving passengers 95 percent on-time reliability and the option to build their own price.
The airline allows passengers to choose the upgrades they need, from seats with extra legroom to checked bags and in-flight meals, while keeping costs low so travellers can make the most out of their trip.
