200 years since the Rosetta Stone was deciphered:

On September 27, 1822, French Egyptologist Jean-Francois Champollion finally deciphered the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs of the Rosetta Stone.

Discovered in the city of Rosetta by French soldiers in 1799 AD, the ancient stone written in 196 BC in demotic and Greek hieroglyphic text is a letter of thanks from Memphis priests to King Ptolemy V.
