Vueling and the Spanish Red Cross, together with IAG Cargo and Aena have sent vital humanitarian supplies to Gaziantep (Turkey) in support of those affected by the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
The humanitarian flight (VLG531) operated by a Vueling Airbus A320 took off February 16 at 8:00h from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport and landed in Gaziantep, the closest airport to the area affected by the earthquake, at 14:15h (local time).
It carried a cargo of more than 8,000 kg of aid consisting of tents (tarpaulins) and 20L water containers.
The Red Cross Red Crescent will use this cargo to continue carrying out humanitarian aid in the affected regions, both in Turkey and Syria.
Almost 10,000 people have been deployed to provide health care, food, psychosocial care, and other essential aid.
Sandra Hors, Chief Communications Officer of Vueling, explained:
“At Vueling, we are always available to help the most vulnerable groups and to respond to emergencies such as the one caused by this earthquake.
The entire company has been involved in this shipment, hoping to do our bit to support the people going through this situation”.
Iñigo Vila, director of the Red Cross Emergency Unit, thanked Vueling for its support in getting this cargo to Turkey.
The cargo contributes to the 105 tonnes of humanitarian aid that the Spanish Red Cross has sent to help the people affected in Turkey and Syria.
