Icelandair Named Most Punctual Airline

Icelandair has been named the most punctual airline in Europe for June.

The airline said in a statement that it is “the new leader for European Airlines in terms of punctuality”, following the operation of nearly 4,000 flights in June.

Cirium®*, a company that provides data for the aviation industry, revealed that 84.08% of Icelandair’s flights across the country arrived on time last month.

This is following 84.36% punctuality in May. Keflavik International Airport (KEF), Icelandair’s main hub, turned in an OTP of 74.52%.

In June, Icelandair transported 514,000 passengers, with a Load factor of 83%.

Year-to-date, Icelandair has transported two million passengers, 7% more than last year, with a growing demand seen for passengers to use Iceland as a stopover destination between Europe and North America.

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair President and CEO from Icelandair commented:

“We know punctuality is one of the most important factors to our customers, so we are very pleased to see Icelandair coming out as the most punctual airline in Europe at present.

“This is all thanks to a strong focus and the outstanding work of the team.

“We are proud to see this hard work paid off, which has led to an increase in positive feedback in passenger experience surveys, and also contributes to lower operating costs for the airline.”

2024 has seen three new route launches for Icelandair (The Faroe Islands, Halifax and Pittsburgh) extending its route network to an impressive 50 destinations, making the current summer schedule the largest in the company’s history.

Icelandair will operate up to 65 departures per day from Keflavik to 50 destinations as well as 3 domestic destinations from Reykjavik.

*In their report, CIRIUM assesses the performance of the top 30% airlines in terms of Available Seat Kilometers (ASK).
