Following the historic christening of AmaMagdalena earlier this year, the debut of AmaMelodia further reinforces AmaWaterways’ long-term commitment to fostering sustainable tourism and meaningful cultural connections in the region.

The introduction of a second ship also reflects the company’s strong confidence in Colombia’s future as a world-class river cruise destination.

“After seeing the incredible response to AmaMagdalena earlier this year, we are thrilled to welcome AmaMelodia to the AmaWaterways fleet,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways.

“Launching these two ships has been an extraordinary collaboration with our Colombian partners. Together, we are not only creating unforgettable travel experiences for our guests but also helping to build a sustainable foundation for tourism that benefits local communities along the river.”

Accommodating just 64 guests, AmaMelodia was meticulously designed to maximise comfort and views of Colombia’s lush landscapes and vibrant riverfront towns.

Spacious staterooms, ranging from 237 sq. ft. to 318 sq. ft., feature twin balconies that invite guests to take in the ever-changing scenery.

On board, travellers enjoy exquisite locally inspired Latin American cuisine and Western favourites in the Main Restaurant, lively evenings filled with music and entertainment in the Main Lounge, and moments of relaxation in the Sun Deck whirlpool as the ship glides along one of South America’s most storied waterways.

Every aspect of AmaMelodia’s design and operation reflects a deep appreciation for Colombian culture and artistry. From hand-crafted décor by local artisans to cuisine that celebrates regional ingredients, the ship embodies the spirit of the country and its people.

Guests sailing aboard AmaMelodia can choose from two immersive seven-night itineraries, Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia, which explore the rich biodiversity, music, cuisine, and history that define the Magdalena River Valley.

Excursions invite guests to connect authentically with local culture through experiences such as a private performance of the Barranquilla Carnival, an exclusive jazz concert in Mompox, and a visit to Palenque, the first free town in the Americas.

These encounters not only enrich the guest experience but also directly support artisans, musicians, and guides who share their traditions with visitors.

“Seeing AmaMelodia set sail is very meaningful to me,” said Kristin Karst, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Ambassador of AmaWaterways.

“Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with our Colombian partners and witnessing the incredible pride and passion that define this country. From its talented artisans to the warm communities along the riverbanks, Colombia’s spirit is woven into every detail of this ship.

AmaMelodia is a celebration of that culture and a beautiful example of what can be achieved through true collaboration and respect for local heritage.”

AmaWaterways’ commitment to sustainable tourism and cultural exchange has been recognised by ProColombia, the country’s official promotion agency, which worked with AmaWaterways to bring this pioneering river cruise project to life.

As the first major river cruise line to explore the Magdalena River, AmaWaterways continues to set the standard for responsible and immersive travel in Colombia.

With AmaMelodia now joining AmaMagdalena, the company looks forward to welcoming even more travellers eager to experience the heart and soul of this remarkable destination.
