Barbados Named Favourite Caribbean Island At Destination Awards

Barbados has picked up the award for ‘Favourite Caribbean Island’ at the inaugural Destination Awards hosted by Ice Travel Group.

Sixteen destination awards were handed out over the course of the evening, each of them voted for by TravelSupermarket and icelolly.com customers via a survey which garnered over 25,000 votes.

Ice Travel Group is the parent company of TravelSupermarket and icelolly.com.

The BTMI (Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc) team joined other tourist boards and travel companies at the awards ceremony at Ice Tank in London on Thursday 12 October.

Cheryl Carter, Director of BTMI UK commented: “We are so proud to win this award, particularly as it was voted for by holidaymakers themselves.

“The Island of Barbados is dedicated to providing the warmest welcome in the Caribbean and offering an unforgettable experience for its visitors. Barbados’ stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality are some of the unique aspects that make it the go-to destination in the Caribbean.”

The island of Barbados offers a unique Caribbean experience steeped in rich history and colourful culture, and rooted in remarkable landscapes.

Barbados is the home of two of the three remaining Jacobean Mansions left in the Western hemisphere, as well as fully functional rum distilleries.

The island is known as the birthplace of rum, commercially producing and bottling the spirit since the 1700s.

Each year, Barbados hosts several world-class events including the annual Barbados Food and Rum Festival; the annual Barbados Reggae Festival; and the annual Crop Over Festival.

Accommodations are wide and varied, ranging from picturesque plantation houses and villas to quaint bed-and-breakfast gems; prestigious international chains; and award-winning five-diamond resorts.

The Grantley Adams International Airport offers several non-stop and direct services from a growing number of U.S., U.K., Canadian, Caribbean, European, and Latin American gateways.
