Germany has announced that it will lift travel restrictions for UK visitors arriving into the country from January 4.
This means that fully vaccinated UK travellers no longer need to show proof of a negative Covid test or undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
From the German consulate website:
With effect from 0:00 hours CET on Tuesday 4 January 2022, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be classified as a high-risk area. This will result in changes to the entry regulations (ban on carriage and entry to be lifted).
This means, among other things, that people who are fully vaccinated or who have an important reason for travelling will also be allowed to enter Germany. In addition, people who are fully vaccinated will not need a negative Covid test to enter the country, nor will they need to quarantine for 14 days on entry. Further details can be found on the Federal Foreign Office website.
On December 19, the UK was placed on a list of nations “of variants of concerns” because of high Omicron levels. The ban will now end on Tuesday, 4 January when the UK is moved to the less severe “high risk” list.
UK visitors will only need to complete an online digital registration form and those who are not fully vaccinated must quarantine for 10 days – which can be reduced to five with a negative Covid test result.
