To celebrate, HF Holidays, the UK’s only walking holiday co‑operative, is launching a collection of 75th anniversary offers – based at its Peveril of the Peak country house – including a new 2026 Ethel Bagging walking holiday created in Haythornthwaite’s honour.
ETHEL BAGGING WALKING HOLIDAY – NEW FOR 2026
The ‘Ethels’ are a collection of 95 hills of over 400m across the Peak District and are named after the pioneering conservationist Ethel Haythornthwaite, who was instrumental in campaigning for the national park.
After suffering illness and the devastating loss of her husband in the First World War, Haythornthwaite found solace in long walks in the countryside around Sheffield – experiences that inspired her dedication to protecting the landscape for others.
In her honour, HF Holidays introduced its new Ethel Bagging walking holidays in 2026.
