2027 sees the walking holiday co-operative open a new country house home in Buxton, introduce a host of new walking holidays designed to showcase wild, lesser-trodden landscapes, and introduce a more detailed grading system for its walks to reflect its growing holiday collection.
NEW HOME IN BUXTON, GATEWAY TO THE PEAK DISTRICT
Opening on 29 January 2027, HF Holidays Country House, Lee Wood Hotel is a Georgian manor in the historic spa town of Buxton, offering 43 en-suite bedrooms, including 18 single rooms, newly refurbished shared spaces, a bar, lounge and restaurant, activity rooms, gardens and a boot and drying room.
Ideally located in the heart of Buxton, the hotel places guests within easy reach of the Peak District National Park, with walking routes stretching across the Dark Peak, White Peak and surrounding valleys.
As HF Holidays’ permanent base in the Peak District, it offers a welcoming year-round hub for walkers, while its proximity to Buxton railway station makes it an attractive option for car-free escapes.
NEW DETAILED WALKING GRADES
HF Holidays offers a huge breadth of choice for walkers across a wide range of fitness levels, from its challenge holidays that hike some of the highest peaks in the UK, through to gentle walking holidays that are at a more leisurely pace.
This year, the walking holiday co-operative has refined its walking grades on a new 1 to 10 scale, providing more detail around distance, ascent, terrain and pace.
The move gives a much clearer picture of what guest can expect when choose a holiday, with grades divided into three categories – Gentle (grades 1–4), Moderate (grades 5–7) and Challenge (grades 8–10).
LEARN ABOUT THE LAND WITH NEW GEOLOGY AND WALKING HOLIDAYS
For walkers who want to understand the story of the landscape beneath their feet, HF Holidays is introducing new Geology & Walking holidays in the Brecon Beacons (walking grade 7) and Shropshire Hills (walking grade 6).
The seven-night holidays are led by lecturer and academic in Geology, Geraint Owen, who lectured at Swansea University. He will share his knowledge of how the landscapes have been formed throughout his guided walks of approximately seven to nine miles.
Guests will learn to read clues to the changing climates and environments of the planet’s distant past and leave with a deeper understanding of the places where we walk.
