Holland America Line Reintroduces Behind-The-Scenes Ship Tours

Holland America Line has announced it is relaunching behind-the-scenes ship tours for guests.

Each tour will visit several locations that showcase the breadth of operations on board. In addition to key locations such as the ship’s navigational bridge, galley and engine control room, guests will visit the main laundry, recycling centre, World Stage dressing rooms, marshalling areas, storerooms, bakery and bars.

At each location, the tour will feature crew members – such as the captain, a bridge officer, or chief engineer – who will give detailed information about the area and its contribution to the ship’s operation.

Guests who participate will also receive a unique ship-specific lanyard, souvenir photo collection and commemorative certificate.

The tour relaunch coincides with the airing of ‘Supercruising: Life at Sea’, an eight-part docuseries on Channel 4 which is set on Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam ships.

The series shares a behind-the-scenes look at life onboard, revealing what it takes to operate a cruise ship around the clock. Episodes are on Thursdays at 8pm, running to August 21, and are also available to stream.

Carole Biencourt, Holland America Line’s Vice President of Onboard Revenue, said: “We hear so often from guests who’d love to see the bridge or where our chefs prepare their meals. By bringing back this tour experience we’re pulling back the curtain to these areas that are rarely visited.

“We’re giving guests a rare opportunity to see what makes our operation so unique. It’s a fascinating look at the inner workings of a cruise ship, and guests love meeting the crew members who work behind the scenes to create such a memorable experience.”

The tours will be available fleetwide by the end of this month. Tours are bookable on board at Guest Services and cost $179 per person, with an accessible option available.
