Flights from the UK to Hong Kong will be banned from Thursday after Britain was added to a list of “extremely high risk” destinations.
The move is designed to stop the spread of the delta variant and is the second time Hong Kong has blocked arrivals, following a previous ban that ran from December 2020 until May.
The Hong Kong government said in a statement on Monday that it has taken this action due to “the recent rebound of the epidemic situation in the UK and the widespread Delta variant virus strain there, coupled with a number of cases with L452R mutant virus strains detected by tests from people arriving from the UK.”
“This means that from 1st July, all passenger flights from the UK will be prohibited from landing in Hong Kong and that all passengers who have visited the UK for more than two hours in the past 21 days will be denied entry to Hong Kong.”
