This Sunday, 13th July, marks 40 years since Bob Geldof and Midge Ure’s landmark concert took place to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia, with the impact still being felt today.
Split across two venues, London’s Wembley Stadium and the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, nearly 40% of the world’s population tuned in to the events of that day in 1985. They watched more than 70 of the most iconic rock and pop acts of all time, including a set by Freddie Mercury and Queen, that has since been dubbed one of the greatest rock performances ever.
Live Aid’s legacy is so great that the ‘Just for One Day’ musical launched in 2024, celebrating all that was achieved by the event.
Featuring hits by artists such as David Bowie, The Who, Queen, Elton John, The Police, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo and many more, the musical is running at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre until January.
Claire Dutton, Trade Sales Manager, commented: “It’s forty years since that incredible concert and its legacy lives on. We know from experience the impact that widespread media coverage of an event like this can have on sales, and with the BBC planning a series of programmes on TV and radio, we are expecting to hear alot about Live Aid over the next week or so.
“Agents should be prepared for enquiries from people wanting to re-live that historical day and enjoy a fantastic night out. I’d encourage them to update their social feeds and remind their clients how cost effective a package incorporating tickets can be.”
10% of the sale of all tickets for the ‘Just for One Day’ show are donated directly to the band-aid charitable trust, with over £850,000 having already been raised.
