The airline’s newest base will progressively scale its operations through the early months of 2026, reaching full operational capacity by March 2026, with two aircraft permanently based at the airport.
The company said the establishment of the Southampton base is a strategic move designed to strengthen resilience across Loganair’s network, ensuring reliable connectivity to and from the South Coast while supporting communities that are often underserved by domestic air travel.
By basing aircraft and crew locally, Loganair will be able to respond more effectively to disruption, improve operational flexibility, and provide dependable services linking southern England with key economic centres and onward global connections.
Southampton’s geographic position makes it a critical gateway for southern mainland and island communities, and the base plays a vital role in Loganair’s long-standing mission to connect regions, cities and islands that might otherwise be overlooked by larger carriers.
The base supports existing and recently launched routes, including services to Manchester and Edinburgh, with onward connectivity through Manchester to destinations such as Inverness, Aberdeen and the Isle of Man, as well as global connections via Loganair’s codeshare and interline partners.
Ronnie Matheson, chief commercial officer at Loganair, said: “The start of operations at our Southampton base represents an important step in strengthening the resilience of our network and ensuring consistent, reliable air links for the South Coast.
“For more than 60 years, Loganair has focused on serving regions and communities that depend on strong domestic connectivity.
“Establishing a permanent base in Southampton allows us to better support an area of the country that is often overlooked, while providing our customers with dependable services and improved operational stability.
“As we scale up operations through to March, Southampton will play an increasingly important role in our UK network, supporting both regional travel and vital onward connections.”
The Southampton base forms part of Loganair’s broader strategy to deliver sustainable regional air services, balancing economic growth, community access and long-term network reliability.
Chris Tibbett, Aviation Director at AGS Airports, said: “This is a fantastic milestone for Southampton Airport and a clear demonstration of Loganair’s commitment to strengthening regional connectivity.
“Establishing a permanent base here not only enhances travel options for our passengers but also delivers tangible benefits for the local economy through job creation and increased business opportunities.
“Southampton’s position as a key gateway for the South Coast makes this investment particularly significant.
“The addition of routes such as Manchester, which started in October, reconnected vital economic corridors and, through Loganair’s extensive interline partnerships, provides even greater global connectivity for our customers.”
Loganair currently operates nine other bases across the UK, including Kirkwall, Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, City of Derry, Jersey and the Isle of Man.
The airline was recently named the most punctual airline for UK arrivals and departures in Q2 2025 by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, with 86% of flights operating on time, and has consistently received strong customer service ratings from Which?.
