Oregon Travel Spends US$2.4 Million on Tourism Recovery

The Oregon tourism commission, Oregon Travel, is pouring more than US$2.4 million into projects created to enhance and expand the experience of visitors to the city under conditions in times of a pandemic.

Such projects as the development of iconic Oregon attractions, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the development of outdoor walking trails, etc., are all designed according to the needs of activities during a pandemic.

This method is to answer the many tourism entities that have to be closed and unable to hold events due to the pandemic like last year. This is because it cannot be denied that a pandemic is very contagious and spreads so quickly.

“Therefore, these projects are built with due observance of health protocols in order to stay safe during business activities, events, and attractions,” said Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon, on Monday (3/5).

As is known, the pandemic has affected the tourism economy of Oregon. In a preliminary report from Dean Runyan & Associates entitled “Economic Impact of Travel in Oregon”, it was stated that in 2020 travel-related jobs fell 22.1%.

Then, the total travel spending in Oregon even fell by 49.5% from US$12.8 billion in 2019 to only US$6.5 billion in 2020. Travel Oregon disbursed funds for the development of these projects as an effort to recover this condition.
