Share this:

Low-cost Icelandic airline, PLAY, surprised its one-millionth passenger with a lifetime of free flights.

The lucky passenger, Ikechi Chima Apakama, was travelling from Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport to Keflavik International Airport in Iceland on 17 February 2023.

All passengers on the flight were treated to gift bags, Prosecco and cakes. The winner was announced upon landing.

Alongside free PLAY flights for life, Ikechi also received a coat and hat from a well-known Icelandic brand, Cintamani.

PLAY’s CEO Birgir Jónsson said:

“I want to thank each one of the one million guests who chose to fly with PLAY and the PLAY team for delivering our award-winning service.

“Reaching one million passengers is a huge milestone for a new airline that only 18 months ago was facing a global pandemic and unprecedented travel restrictions.

“While I’m sure this is a big deal for Mr Apakama, it’s a huge moment for PLAY.”

PLAY carried 800,000 passengers in 2022 and expects passengers to be 1.5 – 1.7 million in 2023.
