Global popstar Nicole Scherzinger has officially named P&O Cruises’ newest ship Arvia yesterday in a spectacular beachside ceremony in Barbados.

Scherzinger said: “It was an incredible celebration today, performing at the SkyDome in front of everybody, for everyone at home.”

The star christened the ship with a blessing of “I name this ship Arvia, may God bless her and all who sail in her” before pulling a lever to release a bottle of specially commissioned rum.

The incredible ceremony was streamed live on P&O Cruises’ YouTube channel and was watched by more than 20,000 viewers from across the globe.

Attendees were treated to a special live performance by Nicole Scherzinger.

Chart-topper Olly Murs also performed his best-loved hits at the ceremony, which was held both on board Arvia’s SkyDome and from Heywood’s Beach.

Also present at the ceremony was P&O Cruises’ President, Paul Ludlow and Barbados’ Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley.

The event was hosted by two of the UK’s most popular broadcasters and DJs, Sara Cox and Trevor Nelson. Click here to watch Arvia’s naming ceremony in Barbados.
