Polar Pioneer Heads To Antarctica & South Georgia

Secret Atlas is headed to the Southern Hemisphere for a 12-day Antarctica Cruise and a 15-day South Georgia cruise onboard the MV Polar Pioneer.

The cruises will take place on 1st January 2024 and 24th February 2024 respectively.

The ship will depart from Ushuaia, Argentina on New Year’s Day 2024, focusing on wildlife viewing and photography.

The expedition will be led by highly experienced expedition leaders and specialist photography guides who will offer tips on photography and insights into the Polar regions.

High points include visiting penguin rookeries up close and spotting other wildlife such as leopard, crabeater, Weddell and elephant seals, orcas, Minke, and humpback whales.

Polar Pioneer’s departure in February from Port Stanley to the remote island of South Georgia in the Atlantic Ocean offers a similar and rare opportunity for visitors.

The journey across the Scotia Sea to South Georgia, situated around 1500 kilometres from the Falkland Islands, provides the chance to spot albatross, which often trail the ship, as well as whales including orcas.

The aim, weather permitting, is to land at a different location along the coast of South Georgia each day.

Guests can visit key king penguin breeding colonies, and take in the history of this isolated island, with its old whaling station and the grave of Ernest Shackleton, as well as landscapes sculpted with stunning fjords.

The Polar Pioneer offers the smallest group size in Antarctic cruises with accommodation for just 48 guests.

The vessel underwent a major refurbishment complete with a sauna, a saloon and bar area, and an open bridge plus raised decks.

Prices start from $10995 per person sharing a triple cabin on the Antarctica Cruise (1-12 January 2024) and from $13995pp on the South Georgia Explorer itinerary (24 February – 9 March 2024).
