With the government’s travel announcement of ‘green list’ countries to be revealed this afternoon, airfares to some destinations predicted to be quarantine-free have soared.
With Portugal, Malta, and Gibraltar all predicted to be on the list due to being low-risk, the lowest airfares with British Airways are said to be around £530 one-way to Faro from London Heathrow. A return is to be about £473, in comparison to a London to New York flight on the same day costing £517 return.
In the airline industry, the price of tickets rises as the lowest fares sell out.
EasyJet flights from Gatwick to Faro are currently priced at £309 one-way.
Flights to Malta are significantly lower at £150 return.
Once the green list is known, airlines and holiday companies are expected to step up capacity, which could see fares fall when extra seats go on sale.
