“We have revealed the best train routes in the UK for you to experience some of the most scenic journeys.”
The UK’s most scenic train rides:
Taking the top spot as the UK’s most scenic train ride is the Tamar Valley Line with a score of 9.05 out of 10. The route, which travels between Plymouth and Gunnislake, offers views of the Royal Albert Bridge, rolling countryside, rivers and dockyards, with reviews describing the scenery as “delightful” and “panoramic”.
Following in second place is St Ives Bay Line with a score of 7.86 out of 10. Running from St Erth to St Ives, the route has stunning views of the Cornwall coastline, taking travellers past Hayle Towans and Carbis Bay. With incredible beach and cliff views, it is no surprise one reviewer said it is “one of the most beautiful journeys I can remember taking.”
Rounding out the top three is Downpatrick & County Down Railway, scoring 7.38 out of 10. The heritage railway runs through County Down’s beautiful countryside, allowing visitors to enjoy scenic views and travel on an old-fashioned train.
