Travel To Portugal In Question

Travel to Portugal once the travel ban is lifted on Monday has been thrown into jeopardy.

Doubts over whether the nation will open its borders on Sunday as planned could possibly be extended until 30th May, due to a ‘state of public calamity’.

Travellers who have holidays book there next week face having them cancelled and refunded over the weekend.

Portugal is currently the only major European green list destination, with demand soaring and flight capacity increasing with airlines like easyJet, Ryanair and Tui.

Portugal’s cabinet office minister Mariana Vieira da Silva said at a briefing when asked whether the UK restrictions would soon be lifted: “I have no information to give yet.”

Tui updated its website last night to say: “We’re aware of reports this evening regarding flights and holidays due to depart between 17th and 30th May 2021 to mainland Portugal.”
