TUI has launched its “biggest ever” winter programme from Newcastle International Airport. The company has also added direct flights and holidays to Sal, Cape Verde and Sharm-el-Sheikh, in Egypt.
Commencing from November 2023, TUI expects demand for winter sun to increase following positive bookings, with North African destinations providing great value and “guaranteed” sun.
Holidaymakers can choose from a total of 20 destinations with TUI this winter, and a total of 38 popular holiday destinations across the year from the North East’s largest airport.
Sal, Cape Verde is a brand new destination from Newcastle International Airport. Referred to as the African Caribbean, it boasts 350 days of sunshine, long white sandy beaches and colourful towns.
Sal, Cape Verde complements TUI’s rich long-haul destinations from Newcastle International Airport including Cancun and Orlando.
Often compared to the likes of Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, Sal is the most popular paradise island for visitors in Cape Verde. Weekly flights depart on Tuesdays from 7th November.
Sharm-el-Sheikh is located on Egypt’s Red Sea coastline, offering clear waters, coral reefs, sheltered sandy beaches and warm weather year-round.
Direct flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh provide even more choices to Egypt in addition to existing direct flights to Hurghada, a popular year-round destination from the North East of England.
Starting with weekly flights from 1st November, this service will increase to twice-weekly from 25th March 2024.
Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport said:
“We are delighted that TUI has announced these hugely sought-after and popular holiday destinations, further evidencing their commitment to the region and to the Airport.
“The addition of Sal, Cape Verde and Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt adds even more choice to people in the North East looking for guaranteed winter sun at a great value.”
Andrew Flintham, Managing Director of TUI UK and Ireland said:
“Our African destinations have gone from strength to strength and are a very important part of our holiday programme.
“We’re a longstanding partner of Newcastle International Airport so I am delighted we can offer people in the North East further choice with new weekly flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt and Sal, Cape Verde.
“We’re seeing strong demand for travel, with bookings suggesting that customers are keen to plan far in advance for their perfect holiday and both these destinations offer excellent value and an outstanding selection of quality resorts.
“With these new winter routes and the recent addition of 1,500 more hotels for UK customers to choose from next summer, our commitment to continue delivering award-winning winter and summer holidays to our customers in the region is a long-term one.”
