Wizz Air Launches Sziget Festival Promotion

Wizz Air has partnered with Sziget, one of Europe’s largest and most environmentally conscious festivals.

The aim of the partnership is to make festival participation more sustainable, helping festival-goers to minimise the waste they produce, said the airline in a statement.

Each year, visitors to Sziget generate masses of waste. Truckloads of ‘single-use’ tents and camping equipment are routinely discarded. Wizz Air says its new campaign seeks to address this.

From 8 to 17 August, passengers travelling to and from the festival can now transport their tents free of charge on several of the airline’s flights to and from Budapest.

The tents may weigh up to 10 kilograms and have a maximum size of 149x119x171 centimetres.

For circular tents, the specified size can be a maximum of 171 centimetres in diameter.

Johan Eidhagen, Chief People and ESG Officer at Wizz Air said: “Wizz Air is proud to have the lowest carbon emissions per passenger-kilometre in Europe, which will be reduced by a further 25 per cent by 2030.

“We strive for sustainability not only in our daily operations but across all aspects of our work.

“Our joint initiative with Sziget Festival will help empower our passengers to choose the most environmentally-friendly options and reduce the number of ‘single-use’ tents used at the festival.”

Tamás Kádár, CEO of Sziget said: “Sziget is committed to protecting the environment.

“Within the framework of our Greener Sziget concept, we have placed a great emphasis on promoting environmental awareness and creating the right conditions to make our festival more sustainable.

“Wizz Air’s new campaign creates an opportunity for citizens to bring their own tents to the festival and take them home.

“Through providing our passengers with this option, they can avoid buying single-use camping equipment that ends up as waste.

“Our visitors can still donate the usable tents and equipment they leave behind to those in need.”

The promotion includes flights departing from Dortmund, Eindhoven, Liverpool, London, Milan, Naples, Nice, Paris and Rome to Budapest, as well as flights returning from Budapest to these destinations.

Wizz Air is eager to welcome young people who are passionate about sustainability as tourists and potential employees to join its dynamically developing airline.
