The first flights to Granada, Málaga and Asturias take off this week, opening up new opportunities for affordable autumn and winter getaways. The three routes further strengthen Wizz Air’s extensive Spanish network, which now connects UK travellers to 10 destinations across the country.

While Spain is best known for its summer sunshine, the country has plenty to offer throughout the cooler months, from festive markets and historic city breaks to spectacular mountain landscapes and even skiing. With services operating multiple times a week throughout the year, customers can plan everything from a long weekend to an extended winter holiday, at a price that won’t break the bank.

Three Spanish escapes to discover this winter

Málaga: Winter sunshine and festive celebrations

Málaga offers a welcome dose of Mediterranean sunshine long after the summer crowds have disappeared. Visitors can explore the city’s historic old town, enjoy tapas along the waterfront or discover its thriving arts and culture scene, including the Picasso Museum.

As December approaches, Málaga also transforms into one of Spain’s most festive cities, with famous Christmas light displays illuminating Calle Larios, alongside seasonal markets and celebrations

Granada: A city break with a surprising winter twist

Granada offers the opportunity to combine a cultural city break with a mountain adventure. Just a short journey from the city lies the Sierra Nevada, home to one of Europe’s southernmost ski resorts.

With the ski season just over a month away, visitors can spend their mornings exploring Granada’s historic neighbourhoods before heading into the mountains for skiing, snowboarding and spectacular alpine scenery.

Asturias: Dramatic landscapes and a taste of authentic northern Spain

For those keen to escape the usual tourist trail, Asturias offers a completely different experience. Known for its rugged coastline, green mountains and picturesque villages, the region is perfect for travellers seeking a slower-paced break surrounded by nature.

Autumn and winter are also ideal times to discover the region’s rich food culture, from traditional Asturian cider houses to hearty local dishes such as fabada asturiana.

Visitors can explore the historic streets and Christmas festivities of Oviedo, or venture further afield to discover the dramatic landscapes of the Picos de Europa National Park.

Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, said: “Spain has always been a favourite with British holidaymakers, but there’s so much more to the country than a summer beach holiday. With three new routes launching from London Luton over the next week, we’re giving our customers even more choice when it comes to exploring Spain, whatever the time of year.

“From winter sunshine in Málaga, and tapas in Granada, to skiing in the Sierra Nevada or discovering the beautiful coastline of Asturias, these destinations show just how much Spain has to offer beyond the summer months. With fares starting from less than £30, we’re continuing to grow our UK network and making it easier for more people to discover somewhere new without spending a fortune.”
