Aspen and Snowmass are world-class destinations for cycling.
Whether it be downhill, cross-country or road, your customers can explore the towns and the surrounding Roaring Fork Valley on two wheels while immersed in the serenity of the Rocky Mountains.
Covering more ground than on foot, cycling offers the perfect opportunity to connect with the environment in a fun and exciting way.
Best for foodies – Cycle from Aspen to Woody Creek Tavern
Your customers can venture out on a scenic journey along the Roaring Fork River on the tranquil Rio Grande Trail, a paved route once occupied by a railway.
One of the most popular day trips in the valley, the journey consists of a relaxing downhill ride from Aspen to the iconic Woody Creek Tavern.
Best for adrenaline junkies – Snowmass Bike Park
Snowmass Bike Park, which sits at the heart of the Aspen Snowmass / Roaring Fork Valley Gold-Level IMBA Ride Center, offers 25 miles of meticulously maintained downhill trails that span nearly 3,000 vertical feet.
These trails range from beginner-friendly singletracks to thrilling downhill runs that wind through the aspen trees. Riders of all abilities can partake in bike clinics to learn the basics or perfect their downhill and freeride technique.
Best for road bikers – Independence Pass
Aspen and Snowmass Village are both popular destinations amongst road bikers, characterised by their challenging routes and unbeatable views.
With a multitude of routes to pick from, experienced road cyclists can challenge themselves by tackling Independence Pass, a route that was previously featured in the USA Pro Challenge from 2011-2015.
Heading east from Aspen on Highway 82, the road climbs 20 miles up to the top of Independence Pass reaching over 12,000 feet.
Passing through the ghost town of Independence on the way, cyclists can take in views of the Roaring Fork Valley and Aspen.
Cyclists are encouraged to try this route on weekdays as the roads can be busier on weekends.
Best for views – E-bike to the Maroon Bells
Visitors can embark on a leisurely ascent to one of Colorado’s most famed landscapes, the Maroon Bells.
What would be a demanding climb on a regular bike, is made much easier on an e-bike which visitors can pick up from rental shops in both Aspen and Snowmass Village.
Cyclists can take in views of shimmering aspen trees that line the car-free road up to the Bells where visitors will be met by towering mountains and the crystal-clear waters of Crater Lake.
Visitors can park their bikes in the carpark and take a 1.9-mile hiking loop to explore more of the area by foot following winding creeks and walking amongst the aspens.
Best for living like a local – Tuesday Cruiseday
During the summer months, visitors can join Aspen locals on Tuesday Cruiseday. Each week, over 50 residents from Aspen and Snowmass Village gather for a relaxed bike ride.
The ride comes to an end at Smuggler Park just in time to catch the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains. Starting at 6:30pm, this event offers a wonderful opportunity for visitors to experience an authentic Aspen tradition, guided by locals themselves.
Best for families – Half day cycling adventure with Blazing Adventures
