Travel firm Expedia has announced that it would no longer be offering holiday packages or experiences that include captive dolphins and whales.
According to Sky News, the change was announced following changes to Expedia’s animal welfare policy.
The company said, “attractions and activities that involve performances by or interactions with dolphins and other cetaceans will no longer be available on our sites,”
The company will “continue to sell tickets to seaside sanctuaries that provide captive animals with a permanent seaside living environment if they are accredited and do not feature interactions or performances,”
Expedia also said that the change will take time to implement and it intends to complete the process by early 2022.
Other companies that made similar announcements were Virgin Holidays in 2019, and travel association Abta which updated its animal welfare guidelines in January 2020.
