Latest Survey Shows Cruise Breaks Offer The Most Restful Sleep

Cruise specialist cruise.co.uk has revealed the results of its latest survey.

According to the survey, two-thirds of holidaymakers have said a cruise is a break that gives them the most restful night’s sleep.

The survey asked almost 1,000 respondents which type of holiday or trip offers the most restful sleep. Cruises were the clear winner with 67% agreeing.

Hotel stays took second place with 19%, while cottage or villa breaks were third with 11%.  Hostels came in last, with not a single respondent opting for this holiday type.

The survey also revealed the main reasons for a restful night’s sleep on a cruise were the comfort of the cabin and the quality of the bed, both taking over a third of respondents’ top answers.

The motion of the ocean, and the noise of the sea, also contributed to the ambience with 10% and 7% respectively.

Tony Andrews, Deputy Managing Director of cruise.co.uk, said: “It comes as no surprise that cruising has come out on top of the most restful holidays, as cruise lines have invested heavily in all aspects of passenger relaxation.

“From the quality of the mattresses and the bed linen, the bathroom amenities, the layout of the cabin, to the balcony space available – cruises are set up to wind down.

“There’s also so much you can do onboard a cruise; guests are going to be ready to sleep well at the end of the day.

“Facilities including gyms, climbing walls, spa treatments, dancing, theatre shows and endless entertainment means passengers will be nodding off with ease as soon as they get back to their cabin.”

Dr. Jennifer Holland, a Cruise & Tourism Researcher at the University of Suffolk, said: “There is a lot of new research exploring how to design cabins to achieve the best experience, from the colours of the decor to placement of the bed and texture of the furnishings.

“Comfort is very important to the overall experience of a holiday and cruise lines are offering increasingly better sleep experiences.”
