The best UK seaside destinations for September

Kent Coast has been named the UK’s best seaside destination for September. With its white cliffs, sandy beaches, and historic local towns, Kent sees an average of five hours of sunshine each day, alongside maximum daytime temperatures of 19 degrees, the warmest of all the destinations.

The Kent Coast also experiences just 11 rainfall days per month, making it the joint-lowest number of rainy days among the destinations.

The second-best seaside spot for September is the Solent and Hampshire Coast. Known for its sailing and historic harbours, Brits can expect an average of 5 hours of sunshine per day and maximum daytime temperatures of 17 degrees from the south-east spot.

Several of the UK’s most popular south-west coastal destinations also feature in the ranking. Dorset and the Jurassic Coast (6th), Devon (7th), and Cornwall (8th).

Although there’s slightly higher rainfall, these areas overall experience a great number of sunlight hours and temperatures ranging from 17 to 18 degrees, making the south-west a strong option for a seaside trip.

Kate Watts, spokesperson for Away Resorts, says:

“September can be a brilliant time to enjoy everything the UK has to offer. With crowds beginning to disappear and temperatures still consistent and relatively warm, it’s a great opportunity to soak up the last of summer.”

“From coastal walks to reading on sandy beaches, a September trip can allow you to see the sights you want to see, without the chaos of peak summer crowds.

“Our research highlights that you don’t need to go abroad to catch the last of the sun! From the Kent Coast to the Isle of Wight, Pembrokeshire to Cornwall, there are plenty of destinations around the UK where Brits can make the most of the coast before autumn arrives.”
